The Glass Class Certificate:
An Exploration into Stained Glass Design and Creation

Four 3-hour Classes - $90 each or all four classes for $300

The Glass Class Certificate program consists of four three-hour classes. Taken across different days or in one intensive experience, it is designed to expand your skills in the use of a variety of tools, glass, patinas, and finishings. The class concludes with a Glass Artist certificate of completion.

The classes are meant to be taken in order, as your selected projects will build to completion throughout the program. However, individual classes can be taken if you are curious and want to dive in deeper to a specific aspect of the creation process.

  • Selecting and Cutting (3 hours) – moving beyond the typical running pliers, we will explore using Cutter’s Mate, Silberschnitt pliers, vinyl patterns, and ring saws, as well as breaking and pulling glass. These tools and skills will allow you to create much more complex cuts for a better fit.

  • Fitting and Foiling (3 hours) – explore tools used to ease the foiling process and discuss which foil type and size is best for the project at hand. We will also work with various grinding bits to help fit pieces together.

  • Soldering (3 hours) – practice perfecting pulling beaded lines, building up edges, and dabbling with decorative solder. Work in wire details and copper overlays to add dimension to your project.

  • Finishing (3 hours) – completing the soldering is just the beginning of the finishing process. Discuss the best methods to hang as well as how to properly clean and polish your piece. We will investigate the various patinas, edging, and framing and learn when it is best to use each one.
