Some are built around rapid growth, others around profit, and still others around expansion. The Glass Patch is built on something different.
This philosophy reflects why I chose to build The Glass Patch, the values I hope will continue to define it, and the kind of life I want this business to support.
When I face a decision, it helps me ask a simple question: Does this move The Glass Patch in the direction it was meant to go?
Why The Glass Patch Exists
A patch is a small place set apart—a garden patch, a patch of wildflowers, a patch of sunlight. We also patch things because they are worth preserving. We restore them, replenish them, and give them new life because they are valuable enough to care for.
That is what I hope The Glass Patch becomes: a place set apart from the hurried pace of everyday life, where people can restore and replenish themselves through creativity, meaningful conversation, and the satisfaction of making something with their own hands.
Stained glass is at the heart of that place. It has taught me that mistakes are rarely the end of a project and that something does not have to be perfect to be beautiful.
What I Hope People Experience
I hope people think of The Glass Patch as their studio—a place where they belong. A place where they can slow down, create, laugh, learn, experiment, and simply enjoy being themselves.
Stained glass is the craft I teach, but it is not the real product of The Glass Patch. The real product is what happens while people are creating: quiet satisfaction, renewed confidence, meaningful connection, and the feeling of leaving a little lighter than when they arrived.
Keeping the studio intentionally small protects that experience. Small groups allow me to give each person my full attention and create an atmosphere that feels relaxed, personal, welcoming, and unhurried.
How I Choose to Build
Growth is worthwhile only when it strengthens the experience rather than weakens it.
I want to build The Glass Patch one thoughtful decision at a time. Every addition should serve the philosophy rather than distract from it.
The same principle guides shared materials, generosity, and pricing.
The Patch Pantry makes useful materials available thoughtfully. Healthy generosity leaves both the giver and receiver encouraged rather than depleted. Fair, transparent pricing respects both the person creating and the person teaching while protecting the future of the studio.
What Enough Means
I am not trying to build the biggest stained-glass studio.
I want to build one known for thoughtful teaching, meaningful experiences, genuine connection, and a business intentionally designed around a life worth living.
Success means having enough: enough to sustain the studio, enough time to rest and create, and enough energy left within me to pour into others without emptying myself.
The easiest things to measure are not always the things that matter most. What matters is that people leave feeling better than when they arrived, return because they genuinely enjoy being here, and feel that they have become part of The Patch.
